Since 2001, locally owned Kauai Babysitting Co. has been the highest quality childcare agency available to Kauai’s residents and visitors. We provide confidence in experienced, reliable, and attentive caregivers straight to your hotel, condo, or home! All sitters are professional, truly creative and engaging, so your children will have fun making memories (and sometimes crafts!)!
Kauai is a spectacular island, and in order to make your time here exceptionally memorable, you may want some “grown up” time away from the keiki. You can relax, knowing your little ones are in safe hands.
About The Sitters
KBC refers only the best caregivers, who enjoy caring for children! Our professionals come from an interesting variety of backgrounds, including life-guards, horse-camp leaders, school teachers, professional athletes, culinary artists, musicians, tour guides, acrobats, coaches, nutritionists and behavior technicians, of which many are soccer moms, sweet grandmas themselves. All are infant/child CPR & first aid certified, highly experienced, and background checked. Each sitter is personally interviewed by the owner. One thing they all have in common is a sincere love of children! Personally knowing each caregiver allows us to maximize their strengths and match your family best!
The Comprehensive Screening Process
- Professionals who are interested in working with us fill out a detailed 5 page application.
- Michelle, the owner, personally contacts every one of the caregiver’s professional references and asks questions to uncover the potential sitter’s character.
- Potential sitters who make it through the first two steps are then invited to participate in an in-person interview which usually lasts for 1 ½ hours. During the interview we discuss relevant work experience, assess their strengths and level of a professionalism through a series of in depth questions.
- If the interview goes well then offer the sitter an opportunity to join our network, conditional to their background check through Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and the United States Department of Justice National Sex Offender Registry.
- Finally, we validate their CPR and First Aid certification is up to date and they’re ready to join the collective of premier Kauai childcare givers!
Meet Michelle, Owner and Operator of Kauai Babysitting Co:
Kauai has a true magic that Michelle feels everyone should have the opportunity to experience! Travel with children can be tricky, and she understands parents need to have their alone time while also feeling confident in their choice of childcare. That’s why she personally knows each sitter (and sometimes their families, too!) and only represents people she feels exemplify the warmth, care, fun and safety that make Kauai Babysitting Co. the BEST on island.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, she has been a childcare provider since high-school. Her experience ranges from gentle infant coddler, to hands-on A.B.A. work for children with special needs, to “Fun Auntie!” and so much more!
Since moving to Kauai in 2013, she has found a real home and “Ohana” (family) here. Wanting to know Kauai as much as possible, she worked as a Concierge, allowing her to know the ins-and-outs of the island, tours, dining, drive times, adventures and more! She loves Kaua’i and wants to share it with you!
Our History
Started by Cate McCann in 2001, Kauai Babysitting Co. has always been operated ON-island, by humans (not computers/robots), and continues to be a personalized family service. In 2011, Cate gave birth to her son and sold the business to Maile who continued a service of safety, professionalism and fun!
Maile Walters provided childcare through the company for three years upon returning home to the island from grad school. In the 6 years of ownership, Maile grew the business into THE premiere agency on Kauai. She not only expanded the company, but also her family, welcoming her daughter in 2016! Maile followed the tradition of keeping the business within the “KBC Family,” and passed it to Michelle.
Michelle Wong had been a sitter through Kauai Babysitting Co. for two years, and loves the aloha she shared, as well as the families she got to meet. She enjoys being a matchmaker for sitters and families and still tries to be hands-on with the kids, getting to sit when she can!
